Nicotiana rustica is considered a sacred plant throughout the Amazonian rainforest, where it is known as “mapacho” and used as an offering to the spirits. It’s a beautiful plant that is quite easy to grow.
Growing: Although Nicotiana is native to warm subtropical regions it can easily survive in cooler temperate parts of the world. For best results, they require lots of fertile soil (you may need fertilizer) and lots of space for their roots. Mix the seeds with about twice their volume in sand. They can be sown in seed trays or, if it is warm enough, directly into soil.
