Ginkgo biloba has a positive effect on the blood circulation, especially in the feet, hands and brain. It’s usually taken on a daily basis for extended periods of time, to improve memory and the power of concentration.
Generally Ginkgo doesn’t generate immediate effects. It’s after a few days or weeks of usage that the benefits become noticeable.
The crushed leaves are often used to make tea or an extract. Recommended dosages range from 4 to 12 grams a day.
Ginkgo can increase the effect of blood-thinners. It may also interact with insulin and other drugs for diabetes. Ginkgo has been found to interfere with the metabolism of drugs processed by an enzyme called cyp3A4. Ask your doctor to check if you are taking medications of this type.
